British Library and Jack the Ripper!

I cannot believe what I saw at the British Library! Take a moment to pour your self a cup of coffee and sit back for this one!! Yesterday I decided to check out the British Library that was only two blocks from my hotel. It was free and I had some time on my hands. This should have been my first stop in London. I got to see one of the original Magna Carta documents from 1215!!! This is the document that helped formed our constitution

I could not take pictures, so I found these online

19,475 Steps -- Best Day EVER!!

London Day One!

Got up early, coz I could not wait to take on this town!! Even the sun was out to welcome me! First stop was Green Park - I took the tube (that's what we Londoner's call the underground train) for two stops and came out at Green Park -- Established in 1668 -- Some of the trees have to date back to then!

I had to look up what type of tree this was... It's a plane tree!

From here I was just walking around and I found St James Park that was built by King Henry VIII in 1536! My heart!! I know now what to plant in my new gardens!

From here I was first in line to enter Churchill's War Room -- It's the underground WWII headquarters of Churchill's war effort -- Being the history nerd that I am... I spent two hours wondering around this underground city! Then I got really hungry and wanted to eat at an outdoor cafe by the Thames RIver, so I took a LONG walk there and passed.....

After Lunch and a long walk I ended up at Westminster Abbey! Sorry no picture of the inside -- it's not allowed... but I did have afternoon tea there!

A Taxi, Bus, Plane and a train! Made it to LONDON!!!

I left my hotel this morning at 7am in the pouring rain - taking a taxi to the bus station where I caught the Shannon Airport bus. You would think that a country with more rainy days then not would have a roof over their bus station!! I packed my rain coat and umbrella in my suit-case thinking I would not be needing them today -- NOTE TO SELF : Leave raincoat and umbrella in backpack and handy when in Ireland and London!! By the time I got on the bus I was soaked through, and so was my luggage, which I found out is not waterproof. I looked around and found all the women were as wet as me and they simply did not care, so I took up the attitude of the locals and decided I too did not care I was wet! Good news is I caught an express bus and shaved an half hour off my trip, The airport in Shannon must be the smallest one I have ever been to! It's also international. It's only 6 hours from O'Hare to Shannon - so I'm told!

Thank goodness the rain stopped before we boarded the plane... because the walk to the plane was outside too!

The Cliffs of Moher

This rainy day started with a great breakfast at my hotel. I skipped the blood sausage and went for a safer menu of Eggs, Sausage and Bacon, and of course a pot of coffee! Thank you God for the pot of coffee - since it is Mother's Day and I'm missing my girls-- they always serve me Breakfast on a tray with a pot of coffee on Mother's Day !!! I love how God knows these things and always gives me what I need!!

large_IMG_1078.jpg

I decided to take a bus tour to the Cliffs of Moher today -- it's an all day tour through the Burren limestone landscape, stopping at Dunguaire Castle, Gleninsheen Wedge Tomb, Poulnabrone Dolmen, Kilfenora Cathedral and Dollin Village.

First Stop - Dunguaire Castle The rain had stopped and sun did come out!!!
large_90_IMG_1106.jpgIMG_1056.jpglarge_90_IMG_1060.jpg

This is the most photographed Castle in Ireland - and I can see why -- Can't believe I actually got to touch it!! We had only 15 minutes to tour this small castle and take pictures - -- EEEKK!! I was the last one to return to the bus ... not sure if this tour bus life is for me!! But I did notice that once again I had deep peace and that silly little smile I found in Italy followed me to the Irish countryside!

Lunch was in Doolin Village - so was a quick shopping moment! We ate at O'Connor's Pub-of course I had the Irish Stew! The sun continued to follow us, and I am told that it could take many trips to the cliff before you can actually see them. Today was one of the rare occasions that the rain held out and the sun was shining!! What a nice Mother's Day gift from God!!
